This was reported by CNN with reference to NASA.
“Even if you're not a fan of New Year's fireworks, you'll have another reason to look up at the sky on New Year's Eve. NASA said that as people celebrate the New Year, the comet will be close to the Moon and visible to those looking to the West,” the report said.
The comet is named after astronomers; it was discovered in 1948 and is called 45P / Honda-Mrkos-Pajdušáková. It is noted that the comet passes along its orbit in just over 5 years.
It is reported to be visible for the first time this year in the Western Hemisphere on December 15th. And on New Year's Eve, it will appear in the eastern hemisphere and will be visible near the Moon.
