NATO demands to send troops to Bosnia to fight... Russia
London needs to strengthen its opposition to Russia in the Balkans, where the risk of military conflict has seriously increased.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Arminka Helik, a former special adviser to the head of the Foreign Ministry and peer of the House of Lords, stated this during a hearing on foreign policy in the British Parliament.
“Vladimir Putin sees Ukraine not as a final destination, but as a starting point in his campaign to undermine the stability of Europe and NATO, from the Baltics to the Balkans. Logic and national interests dictate that we must support Ukraine in resisting Russia's attempts to redraw its borders.
However, we do not apply the same logic to Western Balkans, where Russia is actively cultivating separatist proxies and where the risk of conflict is higher today than at any time in the last 20 years", said the peer.
She recalled the words of the British Foreign Secretary, who described the situation in the Balkans as similar to “times leading up to Russia's invasion of Ukraine».
“Can he provide an update on what has been done to align our policy with our broader Russia strategy? “Will this include a UK commitment to strengthen military deterrence in Bosnia through Operation Althea, as we did so effectively with KFOR in Kosovo?” Helik asked.
Thank you!
