NATO assures that Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance will lead to economic growth
Reforms aimed at joining NATO are “generally recognized institutional reforms for Ukraine” and will lead to the growth of its economy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The head of the NATO office in Ukraine, Alexander Vinnikov, said this at a briefing on Euro-Atlantic integration, the press service of the Alliance office reports.
“The reform is not just about the implementation of NATO standards in the wider defense sector. First of all, this concerns reforms taking place throughout the government that are universal, structural and inevitable. These are reforms that seek to build more sustainable democratic institutions and innovative market economies,” the NATO official said.
The representative of the Alliance in Ukraine congratulated the new initiative of cooperation between the parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers, and expressed confidence in “the fruitfulness of such cooperation for the success of the reform aimed at joining NATO.”
The NATO representative called on the Ukrainian authorities to intensify the implementation of the Framework Law on the Fundamentals of National Security of Ukraine by introducing supporting legislation. This includes laws on parliamentary oversight, on the Security Service of Ukraine, on the activities of special intelligence services, on state secrets, as well as legislation in the field of the military-industrial complex and defense procurement.
The current government of Alexei Goncharuk plans to develop a new weapons program, which provides for its modernization, new contracts with Kyiv’s international partners and a general change in weapons doctrine.
