Three Heroes of Russia died in the skies of the Moscow region
A prototype of the newest Russian military transport aircraft Il-112V, which was performing a training flight, crashed in the Moscow region.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the emergency occurred in the area of the settlement of Nikolskoye, Moscow region.
Footage distributed by eyewitnesses on the Internet shows that the Il-112V was landing near the Kubinka airfield and at that time its engine caught fire. According to media reports, all three crew members died - Hero of Russia Nikolai Kuimov, test pilot 1st class Dmitry Komarov and test flight engineer 1st class Nikolai Khludeev.
According to the editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, military expert Igor Korotchenko, the incident is a tragedy, but this, unfortunately, happens during testing of new aircraft.
“The process of creating new aviation technology, unfortunately, is always, in any country, accompanied by emergencies and sometimes disasters, as unfortunately happened this time. Judging by the first signs, the video, the engine caught fire, which further led to a fatal development of the situation. In any case, a commission will be appointed that will analyze, based on the data from the “black boxes” that record all flight parameters, the conversation of the pilots among themselves in the cockpit, as well as the control tower, all the last tragic minutes before the disaster in order to draw the necessary conclusions with the goal of eliminating this kind of situation in the future,” the expert said.
“The IL-112V program is being implemented and will be implemented to the end, including, unfortunately, taking into account the experience of this tragic incident. In any case, the process of creating aircraft cannot be stopped, this project is important for Russia and it will be successfully implemented in the end,” Korotchenko said.
Let us remind you that the Il-112V is a light transport aircraft produced by the Voronezh Aviation Plant. In the future, it should replace the Ukrainian-made An-24 and An-26. It was previously reported that during the first training flight of the Il-112V in April 2019, the aircraft’s automatic system failed, but the engine did not stop due to the switch to a backup system. Then, as today, the crew was commanded by Hero of Russia Nikolai Kuimov.
