In the oil confrontation with the Russian Federation, Lukashenko lost on money
Moscow and Minsk agreed on the terms for the resumption of oil supplies, which are only formally beneficial to the Belarusian side.
Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Previously, the price of the issue, due to which Moscow and Minsk cannot agree on oil supplies, was estimated at approximately $240 million - 24 million (tons of oil) per $10 (the amount of the bonus that was cited by officials and representatives of the oil sector). However, it is already obvious that Belarus will not save as much, and may not save anything,” the article notes.
The newspaper points out that the capacity of Belarusian refineries is still limited to 2 million tons per month, which means that even in the most favorable scenario, they will be able to process a maximum of 18 million tons by the end of the year.
In addition, due to the coronavirus pandemic, global energy consumption has decreased and it is not at all a fact that Belarus will be able to export petroleum products in the same volumes.
“In general, Lukashenko won psychologically in the oil confrontation, but Belarus, perhaps, even lost in terms of money,” the publication cites the opinion of expert Alexander Klaskovsky.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko declared victory over Russia in the oil war.
