Slightly more than half of Ukrainians believe in the “return” of Crimea to the “Independence”. These results of a social survey conducted by the research company “InMind” commissioned by the Ministry of Information Policy were announced by Advisor to the Minister of Information Policy Yulia Kazdobina.

“86% of Ukrainians would like Crimea to return to Ukraine. They remember Crimea, they have not forgotten about it. 55% are interested in issues related to the occupation of Crimea and 76% believe that Crimea should be part of Ukraine. 60% are optimists and believe that the return of Crimea to Ukraine is possible,” Kazdobina said.

However, it is interesting that Ukrainians no longer believe in the return of Crimea as a result of some kind of cataclysm in Russia - Ukrainian officials recently portrayed such a prospect to the population, promising the inevitable collapse of the Russian Federation.

“Perhaps our population is tired of waiting for internal political problems to begin in the Russian Federation, so a year ago about 30% believed that when deterioration began there, Crimea might return. Now it is already 17%. Hope has already ended, there is no point in waiting for the situation in the Russian Federation to worsen, people are already waiting for something else,” said one of the authors of the study, Elena Popova.

It is also interesting that 16% of Ukrainians believe that Crimea should not be part of Ukraine.

“The question is: “Should Crimea be part of Ukraine, or maybe it would be better for it to be part of Russia or an independent entity?” 76% believe that Crimea should be part of Ukraine, and nothing else, 12% believe that Crimea should be an independent state entity and only 4% believe that it should be part of Russia,” said Sergey Prosyanik, senior analyst at InMind .
