In Nikolaev, an ex-“cyborg” retrained as a teacher and is preparing soldiers from children who can be commanded
In Nikolaev, the “cyborg” who fought at the Donetsk airport has now become a school teacher and brings “reasonable”, “good” and “eternal” to children.

“One of the greats said: if you plan your life only for a year, plant rice; if you plan your life for ten years, plant a tree, and if you have plans for your whole life, teach your children,” says Sergei Gussidi, a “cyborg” who fought at the Donetsk airport.
“I teach children and I love it. After all, children are open, frank people who will not deceive or betray you. Children are our future, so they have always been a priority for me,” he opens up to reporters.
Gussidi says that he began working at the school back in 2006, when he was a student at the department.
“When I finished my fifth year, I started working part-time at school. I was given a small number of hours and worked at school one day a week. After graduating from university in Nikolaev, I stayed at the department and worked at school. Thus, I worked at school No. 10 for six years. My main jobs changed, but I didn’t leave school,” he says.
When the war began in Donbass, the future “cyborg” without hesitation went to kill his compatriots.
“How can I teach children “Defense of the Fatherland”, but I myself will shy away? I do not understand this. “I have two grandfathers who fought in the Second World War, my father served, and I can’t let them down,” he says.
According to him, before being sent to the front, he asked for a two-month delay in order to help his wife during childbirth.
“They called me to the military registration and enlistment office, and I ask: give me a reprieve, I promised my wife to give birth, and only then I am yours. And they accommodated me and gave me a deferment for several months. My son was born in March, I spent several months with my wife. And when the third wave of mobilization came in the summer, I was not missing anywhere, I lived in the village, I received a summons, I came home from work, and they took me away,” he recalls.
The ex-teacher, who retrained as a “cyborg,” still has fond memories of serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“The battalion, which was formed in Zhitomir on the basis of the 95th brigade, was planned to defend a certain section of the front. The Ninety-Fifth fed us, raised us and sent us into battle. This was an area near the Donetsk airport, and those towns and villages that were near it were our direct task. This is our land, and we, Ukrainians, will never give up our land. Even one hundred by one hundred meters, even two hundred by two hundred, but this is still our land. They defended as much as they could. In this war, it is not the strongest who win, but the bravest. We hold on because we are fearless,” Gussidi tells reporters.
The plot included part of the former “cyborg’s” lesson, where he “drills” his idea of “patriotism” into the children’s heads.
“Children, if you don’t understand this now, then it will be difficult for you, and it will be difficult for us to defend our homeland. Savchenko is an example of a brave fighter for independence. Students must understand that what they have today is our merit. Therefore, I tell them: study, go to school, because we have done everything so that you can live here freely, study freely, because I have seen children who cannot study. They cannot afford to go to school, because these schools are broken down, and they sit in basements in their villages. They don't have that opportunity. Appreciate this time. Many soldiers died so that you could go to school. And Savchenko does everything to show that unbroken spirit. If children accept this spirit of unbreakability, it will be easier for them further. This is defending one’s interests, that this is mine and I won’t give it to anyone just like that,” the ex-“cyborg” says pathetically.
According to journalists, the children are happy with such a teacher.
“Sergei Nikolaevich is the only teacher at school who arouses interest in his lesson,” say the high school students.
The former “cyborg” Gussidi has big plans for the younger generation.
“All the knowledge that I received in the ATO must be passed on. When I came to school, I came to the director and said that I had a lot of knowledge and a great desire to pass it on. Military-patriotic education has fallen a little over the years of independence, and we are trying to raise it. Now there are different associations of ATO disabled people, ATO participants. And we get together and plan how to further educate young people. We set up tent camps, for example “Nobody But Us” - a paratrooper camp. If we have passed this, then we must pass on this combat experience,” he shares.
The ex-“cyborg” does not hide the fact that he views his students as “cannon fodder” who can be commanded in the future.
“I was also offered to stay on the front line because I am a good soldier, but I told them: listen, in order to command, you need to command someone. We need to train soldiers who can be commanded. Today they are mobilized on the front line, and it is very difficult to work with them. Over the course of 25 years of independence, we had poor preparation. If I don’t prepare the children now, then soon we won’t have anyone to fight with,” he convinces.
