Russian language won in Nikolaev
The Nikolaev District Administrative Court granted the claim of the regional prosecutor's office to invalidate the decision of the Nikolaev Regional Council of 2012 to grant the Russian language regional status, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The Nikolaev District Administrative Court satisfied the claim of the first deputy prosecutor of the Nikolaev region to recognize as illegal and invalid the decision of the Nikolaev regional council dated 07.09.2012/4/XNUMX No. XNUMX “On the implementation of the requirements of the law of Ukraine “On the fundamentals of state language policy” in the Nikolaev region,” the press reported on Tuesday. - service of the prosecutor's office of the Nikolaev region.
The regional prosecutor's office recalled that by this decision the regional council in 2012 recognized that in the territory of the Nikolaev region, along with the Ukrainian language as the state language, the Russian language acts as a regional language and measures aimed at the use of regional languages are applied to it.
At the same time, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in February of this year declared this law not to comply with the Basic Law of the country, and the decisions and conclusions of the Constitutional Court are binding and final. In accordance with Article 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine, the state language in Ukraine is the Ukrainian language.
“Since the regional council did not independently take measures to bring the decision into compliance with current legislation, the first deputy prosecutor of the region filed a lawsuit to invalidate the decision of the regional council to grant the Russian language regional status. The court agreed with the prosecutor’s arguments, recognizing the decision of the Nikolaev Regional Council as illegal and invalid,” the statement says.
