This was reported by the press service of the prosecutor's office of the Nikolaev region.
“In connection with the decision taken by the Bashtanka City Council on May 25.05.2017, XNUMX to return the old names to a number of streets in the city of Bashtanka, which were previously renamed in the process of decommunization, criminal proceedings were registered, and the decision of the city council was appealed in court with a petition to suspend its action,” - the message says.
In particular, the Bashtanka city council returned their old names to a number of streets in the city of Bashtanka, canceling the renaming of one of the streets in honor of the militants of the “Heavenly Hundred”.
The prosecutor's office stated that such actions contain signs of a crime under Part 2 of Art. 436-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - production, distribution of communist, Nazi symbols and propaganda of communist and national socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes, committed by a person who is a representative of the authorities.
“We believe that this decision of the Bashtansky City Council is obviously illegal and we warn representatives of other local governments against similar actions,” the prosecutor’s office threatens.
Earlier, the decision of the Bashtanka deputies infuriated nationalist propagandists from the so-called “Institute of National Memory,” who wrote a denunciation of the local authorities to the prosecutor’s office.
