Nizhny Novgorod did not turn into a new protest point on the map of Russia after the self-immolation of opposition journalist Irina Slavina.

Her funeral took place today. They weren't too crowded. At the memorial service, the journalist’s comrades themselves said with bitterness that her sacrifice was in vain, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“In recent days, I have been afraid that the sacrifice Irina made will not change us or others. It's like the moment when your last match burns out on a desert island. Irina asked us the question: are we alive? Who is more alive: Irina or us,” said Alexey Sadomovsky.

Another speaker argued with someone who claimed that Slavina committed suicide due to financial problems. Like, her funding was cut.

“Let's not pretend and speak smooth words. She challenged all of us by taking this terrible step. We cannot accept this act. But if Irina’s ashes do not knock in our hearts, then we are corpses and dead people, shavings curled around our own emptiness,” he said.

After the memorial service, Nizhny Novgorod oppositionists marched in a small crowd to the regional police building, where Slavina self-immolated, and shouted “Shame!”

There, three days ago, a memorial of flowers was set up. The governor of the region, Gleb Nikitin, forbade the utility workers from dismantling it (there were such attempts), wrote a heartfelt post in memory of the journalist on social networks, and today he came to the funeral service. This greatly reduced the protest pathos, which, apparently, is low in Nizhny.

The most resonant action was the attempt of activist Alexei Anoshkin to pitch a tent in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs building. For some reason he did this with a colander on his head, and somehow talked about his “feat” very cheerfully and without sorrow.

The journalist was not alone. She had a family - a husband and daughter. By the way, immediately after the death of her mother, the girl went on a solo picket, which shocked many with its inappropriateness.

Slavina's daughter

Moscow liberals are trying to blow up the Slavina case. They demand that a criminal case be opened under the article “incitement to suicide.” Let us remind you that the deceased wrote on social networks: “I ask you to blame the Russian Federation for my death.”

The day before, Slavina’s house was searched as part of a criminal case against the founder of the religious group “Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster,” which is recognized as an undesirable organization outside the Russian Federation. The journalist herself claimed that law enforcement officers were looking for documents related to Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s Open Russia organization.

The security forces constantly had complaints about Slavina. In 2019, four protocols were drawn up against her under various articles.

In particular, the journalist was fined 70 thousand rubles. for petty hooliganism after she replaced the letters in the name of the Shakhunya district center, making it obscene. Thus, Slavina wanted to punish the locality for installing a memorial plaque to Stalin there.

Previously, the journalist was fined 20 thousand rubles for participating in an uncoordinated march in memory of Boris Nemtsov.

In addition, the publication headed by Slavina was fined for publishing symbols of a banned organization without indicating that the organization was banned.

Later, a report was drawn up against Irina Slavina for reposting news about the “Free People” forum (also an undesirable organization in the Russian Federation) on her personal page on a social network and was fined 5 thousand rubles.
