As part of the Normandy format, Emmanuel Macron will become the shadow chancellor of Germany if Angela Merkel manages to be re-elected for a new term. This was stated at a press conference in Moscow by Senator Alexei Pushkov, who believes that Macron will definitely win the presidential elections in France.

“Under the Minsk agreements, Macron will become Merkel’s shadow if she wins the elections. Unlike the Germans, who always considered Ukraine as a zone of their interests, France was never interested in it. For France, Ukraine is more of a reason to agree with its NATO colleagues than a special country. At the same time, the French are categorically against Ukraine’s entry into NATO and the EU. I think this position will not change,” Pushkov said.
He believes that the “Ukrainian policy” of France under Macron will maintain overall continuity, but interest in Kyiv will become even less.
“Holland took some other actions when, after a flight to Astana, he suddenly landed in Moscow and held separate negotiations. The great French story was at play in him - the desire to prove what his country could do. We may not expect such actions from Macron. According to the Minsk agreements, he will adhere to the position of the European Union and is unlikely to come up with any initiatives,” Pushkov said.
