Ukrainian army major shot dead in Novofedorivka

“Yesterday at 22.50, as a result of a conflict between Ukrainian officers and Russian soldiers, Major Stanislav Karachevsky was killed by machine gun shots. The murder took place on the 5th floor of the dormitory, where Ukrainian military personnel of the Saki air base lived,” the press officer wrote.
According to him, another airbase officer, Captain Artyom Yarmolenko, was taken by the investigative department of the Russian Federation to Sevastopol. The officers each had two children.
“It was planned that on April 9, Karachevsky and Yarmolenko were supposed to leave for the mainland of Ukraine. The Ukrainian officers were unarmed,” Vladislav Seleznev clarified.
Meanwhile, the Crimean police voiced their version of what happened. According to her, representatives of local internal affairs bodies and military personnel of the garrison patrol last night repelled an attack by a group of hooligans at the checkpoint of a military unit and an airbase dormitory; one of the attackers was wounded in the scuffle, from which he died, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea told reporters today.
The day before, around midnight, the duty officer of the internal affairs department for the city of Saki received information from the duty officer of a military unit located in the suburbs that a group of unknown persons numbering about 10 people had arrived at a checkpoint (checkpoint).
“These persons, committing hooligan acts, threw stones and broke windows in the building of the checkpoint of the military unit. In order to suppress the hooligan actions of unknown persons, a squad of the local internal affairs body was sent to the place of the ball,” he noted, adding that after the arrival of the Ministry of Internal Affairs squad and the garrison patrol at the unit’s checkpoint, the hooligans fled.
“Literally 10 minutes later, the duty officer at the military unit received information about the penetration of unknown citizens into the garrison dormitory, located 100 meters from the checkpoint. Employees of the internal affairs bodies and military personnel of the garrison patrol went to the hostel to understand what was happening on the spot,” added the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to him, when employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a military patrol entered the entrance, five people attacked them and tried to take away the firearms they had. Presumably, the attackers were intoxicated, a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.
“During the ensuing struggle, one attacker was detained, another was wounded, from which he died before the ambulance arrived, three attackers managed to escape,” he added.
Representatives of law enforcement agencies in the Republic of Crimea are working on site, the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also said.
