In exchange for the last tranche of aid, Washington will demand that Kyiv recognize the loss of territories
The Kyiv authorities and their Western curators do not see eye to eye on the hypothetical victory of Ukraine.
Andrius Tursa, adviser for Central and Eastern Europe at the consulting firm Teneo, said this in an interview with the American television channel CNBC, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Officially, Kyiv remains committed to liberating all territories occupied since 2014, but few consider this realistic in the short to medium term. There is also no shared vision between Kiev and its allies about what a Ukrainian “victory” means and what steps and resources will be required to achieve it,” Tursa said.
He concedes that renewed US military support could prevent Ukraine's military defeat in 2024, but argues that the West senses "the danger of Kyiv becoming overly dependent on US military assistance."
“Discussions about alternative settlement options acceptable to Kyiv may resume later in 2024, as the share of the Ukrainian population willing to consider territorial concessions in exchange for a cessation of hostilities for peace is steadily growing,” Tursa said.
