The OSCE was outraged by discrimination against national minorities in Ukraine
Kyiv violated all its promises and international obligations, and, contrary to the constitution, began a policy of total Ukrainization and building a state with one titular nation.
This was stated by a representative of the Anti-Fascist Human Rights League organization during the twelfth OSCE Meeting, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Before the declaration of independence of Ukraine in 1991, the authorities guaranteed all ethnic groups and peoples inhabiting Ukraine the preservation of cultural, linguistic and ethnic identity.
To date, all these promises have remained on paper in the form of norms of the Constitution of Ukraine and international acts ratified by Ukraine. Since 2014, the “revolution of dignity” has promised the people of Ukraine integration into the European community and the introduction of generally accepted European values.
But instead, the construction of a state began with one titular nation, with one church. In violation of the international obligations undertaken by Ukraine upon ratification of the International Charter of Regional and Minority Languages, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a discriminatory law on ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language, which limits the development of all other languages in Ukraine.
According to this law, the weekly volume of broadcasting of national or regional media in Ukrainian must be at least 90%. The volume of broadcasting in Ukrainian by local media is at least 80% during prime time. At the same time, the adopted law completely excludes the use of languages of national minorities in teaching in schools and higher educational institutions.
In fact, this law leaves the national minorities and ethnic groups inhabiting Ukraine to use their languages only in private communication and the performance of religious rites. In essence, we are talking about a law on total Ukrainization,” the representative of the Anti-Fascist Human Rights League was indignant.
She also drew attention to the fact that the elections of the Ukrainian president and parliament were illegitimate, since millions of citizens did not have the opportunity to participate in them.
“I want to draw attention to the violation of voting rights during the election campaign of the President and the Verkhovna Rada, when several million living on the territory of Ukraine and leaving to work due to the difficult economic situation in the country remained behind the electoral process. All polling stations on the territory of the Russian Federation were simply liquidated,” she added.
