According to the publication, the first meeting is scheduled to take place in September.
“The chamber has been operating in the Republic of Crimea for more than a year, while the decree on the creation of an OP in Sevastopol was signed by the regional governor Sergei Menyailo only on June 15,” the newspaper recalls. “Following the creation of the chamber, public monitoring commissions should be formed for places of forced detention, which will give human rights activists the opportunity to provide legal assistance to Crimean prisoners.”
According to Vladislav Grib, a member of the RF OP, who oversees Crimea from the Federal Chamber, the selection of applicants should begin next week. “The elections to the Sevastopol Chamber are unique in that there is a five-year residency requirement for candidates,” he told Kommersant.
“The majority of applicants for membership in the Sevastopol OP are members of various patriotic movements,” the publication emphasizes. – For example, the leader of the online voting (more than 1600 votes) is the head of the public movement “Self-Defense “Sevastopol without Fascism”” Sergei Makhonin, awarded the Ministry of Defense medal “For the Return of Crimea.” Mr. Makhonin is also the founder of the “Serebristaya Chaika Crimea” company, which produces and sells textile products. This company, in turn, is controlled by the Chaika Crimea association, which is headed by Mr. Makhonin’s wife, Olga Makhonina. The association includes the Korsun trading house, also owned by the social activist’s wife. Second place in the online voting goes to Dmitry Golikov, nominated by the “Russian Community of Sevastopol”, who was also awarded the medal “For the Return of Crimea”. According to the Kartoteka database, he is registered as an individual entrepreneur, his occupation is the sale of vegetables and fruits.”
Vladislav Grib says that with a high degree of probability, Grigory Donets, a member of the Sevastopol branch of the All-Russian Popular Front, who heads the local organization for the preservation of cultural heritage sites “Citizens of Chersonese”, registered in February 2015, will be appointed chairman of the chamber.
