In Odessa, an “activist” extorted money from an entrepreneur, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the communications department of the Main Directorate of the National Police of the Odessa region.
“Under the guise of membership in a public organization, the attacker, under the fictitious pretext of checking the legality of the construction of a shopping pavilion, arranged a meeting with the victim, during which, threatening to destroy property, he demanded that funds be transferred to him,” the report says.
According to the police, in order to “convince” the entrepreneur of the seriousness of his intentions, the “activist” organized a rally near his trading establishment, the participants of which damaged the pavilion.
“The man reported the event to law enforcement officers. Based on this fact, criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 2 of Art. 189 (extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the police commented.
The suspect received the first part of the “tranche” in the amount of $800 in the last days of 2018. During the transfer of the remaining money, he was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation continues.
