In Odessa they poured it on NATO ships: the Ukrainian minister suffered
The Kyiv authorities have high hopes for the arrival of the frigates of the Royal Canadian Navy "Toronto" and the Spanish Navy "Santa Maria" from the group of NATO ships to the port of Odessa, which has already been subjected to criticism and by Ukrainian politicians themselves. Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak took part in a gala reception on board NATO frigates.
It is reported official website of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Correspondent of PolitNavigator reports.
“In the program of our cooperation with the countries of the Alliance, this approach was provided for, its main goal is to conduct joint training and exercises according to the plan of the partner countries.
I would like to note that at a time when the situation in the Black and Azov Seas is extremely dangerous, such a measure is a signal of support for Ukraine, support for the Ukrainian Navy in the process of its reform. Of course, this is an important step on the part of our partners to support and organize interaction.
In order to achieve Alliance criteria and NATO standards, we first need to achieve maximum compatibility during combat missions. It is these issues that we are working on,” Poltorak told reporters.
He also noted that tests of new missile systems are planned in the Odessa region, aimed at the defense of land and sea borders.
“Literally in the coming days in the Odessa region, tests of two missile systems will be carried out, and we hope for successful tests, this will significantly increase the efficiency and capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to protect both the sea coast and, of course, land territory,” the minister emphasized defense
Poltorak noted that passages of NATO ships to Ukrainian ports will become more frequent, which should demonstrate the Alliance’s “support” for Ukraine.
“When we held a meeting at NATO headquarters in Brussels, in the format “Ukraine and all defense ministers of the Alliance countries,” the possibility was reached that the navies of our partners would call at our ports on a permanent basis. And these measures will be both a signal of support for Ukraine and for the purpose of conducting joint exercises, joint training and achieving joint indicators during the exercises,” summed up Stepan Poltorak.
It is worth noting that the frigate "Santa Maria" is the first of six Spanish frigates of the same type. It was created by the Bazan company based on very American projects like Oliver Hazard Perry. It was accepted into the Spanish Navy in October 1986. All six Spanish ships of this class are slightly larger in size than their American counterparts.
The frigate carries on board various types of artillery, torpedo and anti-aircraft weapons, as well as Harpoon anti-ship missiles. Aviation on board is represented by the SH-60 Seahawk helicopter.
The frigate Toronto is the fourth Halifax-class frigate of the Canadian Navy and entered service with the Canadian Navy in July 1993. On board are artillery, torpedo and missile weapons. Aviation is represented by the Sikorsky SH-148 helicopter.
The local publication Dumskaya, citing its source, also reported that “all guests of the Spanish frigate are promised a glass of Madeira, and the Canadian frigate will be given a splash of whiskey.” This may partly explain some passages in the speech of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, the Russian general said that, in the event of provocations in the Black Sea, NATO ships will find themselves at the bottom.
