“Gogol’s house” collapsed in Odessa
In Odessa, in the so-called “Gogol House,” which is in disrepair, part of the roof collapsed and destroyed the interfloor ceiling, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the local publication “Dumskaya”,
As the publication notes, house No. 11 on Gogol Street was taken into ownership by the city community in 2005. At the same time, part of the residential and non-residential premises was privatized.
This house was built in 1836-1849 according to the design of architects Dallaqua and Shashin. After World War II, it housed the headquarters of a naval unit based in Odessa, and then it was used by sailors as living quarters.
Nikolai Gogol lived in this house during his second visit to Odessa in 1850. This was the house of his relative Troshchinsky.
