According to the Timer publication, this time it exploded in a sewer on Pasteur Street, not far from the Ukrainian Theater. As a result of the emergency, the manhole cover was torn off and thrown several meters away, and characteristic damage remained in the asphalt.
According to the State Emergency Service, most likely the cause of the explosion was hydrogen sulfide accumulated in the collector or natural gas. According to them, no one was injured as a result of the incident.
Later, law enforcement officers voiced their version of what happened. As the head of the press service of the regional police department, Vladimir Shablienko, said, a mixture containing calcium carbide, which, when interacting with water, releases explosive acetylene gas, exploded in a sewer well.
“Most likely, someone carelessly poured this substance into the sewer after welding work,” Shablienko noted.
