A parade of the remnants of the Ukrainian fleet takes place in Odessa: Poroshenko again promises to return Sevastopol
Today in Odessa there are celebrations of the remnants of the Ukrainian fleet on the occasion of the Day of the Ukrainian Navy.
The ceremonial events began with a reminder action about Oleg Sentsov, convicted in Crimea on terrorism charges. About a dozen Ukrainian sailors in dress uniform stood with pieces of paper calling to save the starving prisoner, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
After the ceremonial raising of the flag on the flagship frigate "Hetman Sahaidachny", songs and awards, several small armored artillery boats built at Petro Poroshenko's plant paraded to the amusement of those gathered.
“The formation and development of the Ukrainian military fleet occurred and continues in the conditions of tough opposition to the actions of the aggressor country - the Russian Federation.
In 2018, the Naval Forces showed significant results in the combat work of a team of thousands. NATO standards are being introduced. This can be clearly seen in joint exercises with ships of the alliance countries that visit Odessa,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak congratulated the sailors.
And Security Council Secretary Alexander Turchynov noted in his congratulations that since the beginning of the modern history of the Independent, Russia has tried in every possible way to prevent the establishment of Ukraine as a capable maritime power.
“Despite heavy losses after Russian aggression, the maritime industry and the Navy are restoring their potential... We bow our heads to the memory of the fallen heroes! During the ATO/JFO, 51 naval personnel were killed and 488 sailors were wounded while carrying out the mission,” Turchynov noted.
President Petro Poroshenko also congratulated the Ukrainian Navy, encouraging the sailors that he believes in “Ukrainian Sevastopol.”
“I believe that through joint efforts we will revive and increase the maritime glory of Ukraine, and the State Flag on our ships will again be raised in the bays of Ukrainian Sevastopol,” Poroshenko said.
