Odessa, October 13 (PolitNavigator, Artemy Glazunov) – Odessa social activist, ex-candidate for mayor Sergei Dubenko believes that the monument to Catherine II in Odessa can really be demolished, but the authorities will try to prevent the manifestation of radicalism and inadequacy.

“The point is that you need to start from those who benefit from it. In theory, nothing is impossible. If it is beneficial for the former regionalists to show the inadequacy of pro-Ukrainian nationalist forces and mobilize their electorate so that they come to the elections and vote for the “Opposition Bloc” or “Strong Ukraine”, then I doubt that they will be allowed to do this. The position of the regional and city leadership is to prevent the situation in the city from deteriorating on the eve of the elections. This is within their direct competence and is an absolutely unnecessary situation,” Dubenko suggests.

“If we assume that this is beneficial for the right-wing radical forces themselves, this is incorrect, since vandalism of the square, which, regardless of political beliefs, is considered one of the most beautiful in Ukraine, will not bring any electoral benefit in Odessa. I don’t think it would occur to anyone to play on the feelings of Odessa residents,” the social activist said.

At the same time, he does not rule out that there will still be provocations on October 14.

“If there are any provocations, they will most likely be limited to only the procession, which in itself will be a decent news feed that will create the necessary “wave”, and there will be no acts of vandalism. It would be illogical. Nothing happens in Odessa unless it benefits someone. There are no situations in which a person, due to his political beliefs, will commit an act of vandalism. There is always a specific goal. If there is no goal, then there will be no vandalism,” Dubenko emphasized.

As PolitNavigator reported, information previously appeared that 1On October 4, radical groups plan to demolish the monument to Catherine II. Odessa residents collected more than 10 thousand signatures under the appeal to the authorities of the city and region with a request to prevent arbitrariness.
