This was reported by a Navigator correspondent from the scene.
First, the head of the Territorial Election Commission, Alexander Akhmerov, read out the resolution recognizing Trukhanov as the elected mayor, then the word was given to the winner himself.
“I, Odessa mayor Gennady Leonidovich Trukhanov, solemnly swear: to faithfully serve the community and people of Ukraine, adhere to the Constitution of Ukraine and the Laws of Ukraine, protect the rights of freedom of citizens, conscientiously fulfill my official duties,” Trukhanov read out the oath.
“Many thanks to the residents of Odessa for coming to the polls at this difficult time and showing political awareness, although the time is not easy. This is a great credit of trust that the residents of Odessa gave me. We live and work in very difficult times, there are objective difficulties, I understood all this, it did not frighten me. I feel strong, supported and understood,” he said.
“I see our priority task as ensuring security in our city, and we can do this all together, deputies and Odessa residents. Thanks a lot. I won’t let you down,” he also added.
Let us note that Gennady Trukhanov won a landslide victory in the mayoral elections with a margin of 11% over his main competitor Eduard Gurvits.
