Zelensky’s office admitted that the number of NATO supporters in the country is not very optimistic
Residents of the Donbass republics and the population of Crimea, whom official Kyiv continues to consider citizens of Ukraine, will not be able to participate in the referendum on joining NATO.
Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the president’s office, stated this on the Nash TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Arestovich, already in Ukraine there is no full-fledged majority supporting membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
“They are occupied by the Russian Federation. That is, the expression of will there will not deliberately be free. We know this for sure and therefore we will ask those who live here. In fact, regarding joining NATO, the numbers there are not so optimistic in Ukraine. About 50 to 50. That is, even people who are against will be able to express their opinion in the referendum,” said the adviser to the head of the presidential office.
“But such things need to be prepared. If we are talking about joining NATO, it will be necessary to conduct an explanatory campaign towards the population, telling a lot about NATO,” Arestovich said.
