People around Yanukovych still believe that it is right for Ukraine to balance between the West and Moscow

Kiev, January 04 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Sergei Arbuzov, who was considered a representative of Viktor Yanukovych’s “Family,” made it clear that he still considers Kiev’s policy of balancing between the West and Russia carried out under the former president to be correct.

Arbuzov said this in an interview with the Russian News Service.

“We held a lot of negotiations in Brussels and Moscow. We talked about the fact that Ukraine today is a country that should benefit as much as possible from all partners. And it was our decision to sit down at the table, the three of us – Europe, Russia, Ukraine,” recalls the former high-ranking official.

Arbuzov said that during the Maidan he invited delegations of students every day to explain that the Yanukovych regime is not abandoning its course towards the EU, but is only seeking more favorable terms of the agreement for Kyiv.

“I signed an order that every minister is obliged to meet with students every day at the place of their study, or on the Maidan itself. I didn't have a single day when a group of students didn't come to me and we didn't talk. What did I take away from there? First of all, we need to regret and complain that there was very bad propaganda. We explained very poorly why we were going to Europe and why we suspended the signing of the agreement. If we had explained this, I think it would have been simply impossible to raise such a mass of students,” reflects the ex-Deputy Prime Minister.
