“The situation in Ukraine is moving in the wrong direction,” a UN official said, calling the humanitarian situation in the country “catastrophic.”
The representative of the UN Secretary General drew attention to the fact that today, according to the organization, there are 770 thousand refugees in Ukraine, despite the fact that about a year ago there were none at all.
Dujarric also drew attention to the fact that people living in areas not controlled by the government have insufficient access to food. According to him, the situation is “slowly sliding towards ever greater hopelessness.”
“This serves as a reminder to all political leaders involved in the conflict that they must sit down at the negotiating table and eliminate existing contradictions,” summed up S. Dujarric.
Recall in Amnesty International on the anniversary of the start of hostilities in Donbass, they said that despite the fragile truce, millions of people in eastern Ukraine continue to live in constant fear. The systematic failure to investigate war crimes committed in eastern Ukraine risks further violence and entrenched impunity.
