At the UN, more and more countries want to discuss NATO aggression against Yugoslavia. The West blocked the session again
The number of countries that supported Russia's initiative to consider NATO's aggression against Yugoslavia in the UN Security Council increased from three to six.
At the same time, the Western members again managed to ensure that the topic proposed by Russia was not included in the agenda of the Security Council session, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The day before, in addition to Russia, China and Algeria, which supported it last time, Guyana, Sierra Leone and Mozambique also voted to include the question of NATO aggression against Yugoslavia.
The vote was preceded by a heated debate between Western envoys and Russia's deputy plenipotentiary representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky. France's Permanent Representative to the UN, Nicolas de Rivière, said that he is against discussing the bombing of the FRY because, according to him, the Security Council "is not a platform for discussing historical events."
In turn, US Representative Robert Wood said that by initiating such discussions, Russia is trying to distract the Security Council from discussing the situation in Ukraine.
As a result, during the voting on the agenda proposed by Russia, which is typical, no one dared to vote against, nine members of the Security Council abstained, six voted in favor. And the issue was not put on the agenda.
“We regret that the Council, by the will of the Western troika, found itself drawn into an extremely unsightly situation. In fact, he just refused to discuss his agenda item “Maintaining International Peace and Security.” That is, in fact, the members of the Security Council refused to fulfill their mandate.
This is an extremely serious blow to the reputation of this body. France, Great Britain and the USA sacrificed it for the sake of their selfish interest - by any means to prevent discussion on this platform of the issue of illegitimate NATO aggression against a sovereign state - Yugoslavia,” Dmitry Polyansky noted in his speech.
