Special status for the Donbass republics can only be granted for a limited period of time, while Ukraine “prepares” the population of the republics for reintegration. At the same time, amnesty should be provided only to doctors and teachers.
Yuri Boyko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada, one of the leaders of the Opposition Platform - For Life, which presents itself as a representative of the Russian-speaking population, stated this on the air of the talk show “Right to Power,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We cannot pass a law on special status forever. This may be for some time. Because these people and territories in general have already been living a different life for eight years. They need to be prepared to return to Ukraine, they are not ready to return there yet, 70% do not want to today, according to our sociology,” he said.
“They need to be persuaded and told that we are waiting for you here, and a signal about an amnesty for doctors and teachers, a signal that this will be for a certain period of time - this is exactly the edge of a compromise that can be,” Boyko argues.
