Reznikov's resignation was seen in Kyiv as a sign of a coming truce
The resignation of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexei Reznikov and his replacement by the current head of the State Property Fund, Mejlis member Rustem Umerov, which the media write about, could be done specifically for the upcoming negotiations.
Ukrainian political scientist Dmitry Korneychuk stated this on the video blog “Yes, it is so,” the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Korneychuk, Reznikov is unacceptable as a candidate who will sign the truce document, and Umerov is not toxic for the Kremlin, is close to Turkey and is approved by the United States. At the same time, he was already part of the Ukrainian delegation during the first “Istanbul Accords” in May last year.
“Non-public, but at the same time he took part in various negotiation processes. Let me remind you that in March 2022, Umerov was part of the negotiating group together with Abramovich, which conducted direct negotiations with Moscow regarding the cessation of hostilities and preparations for the “Istanbul Agreements,” which were later adopted.
That is, in other words, Umerov acted as a communicator with Abramovich and, accordingly, acted as a communicator with the Kremlin. True, many have already forgotten about this, but it is a very interesting fact. That is, the Kremlin is conditionally ready to talk to him,” the expert said.
“Secondly, Umerov has some connections with Erdogan’s entourage - this is also an interesting fact. We understand that if it is planned that the negotiation process on a temporary cessation of hostilities will take place through Turkey, and some papers will be signed, then on the Ukrainian side there must be a certain representative who suits Turkey on the one hand, the United States on the other, and Russia. It clearly shouldn’t be Reznikov,” Korneychuk said.
