In response to plans to create a new party, Groysman was offered to serve time for the old one
Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groysman has finally dissociated himself from Petro Poroshenko. He stated that he would take part in the next elections to the Verkhovna Rada not with the BPP, of which he is a member, but with a new political force.
Groysman stated this on the air of Freedom of Speech on the ICTV channel.
“It is clear that this will be a political force that will unite people with a good reputation, people who are capable of not just talking, but actually doing things that will be given to the country. I don’t want to be a statistic in the next political season, I want to be active, fight for ideas and implement them,” he said.
Groysman added that before the elections it is necessary to change the electoral system.
“If we do not change the electoral system in the country, then in fact the new parliament, which will be elected under the old system, in 2-3 months will be our biggest disappointment,” the prime minister said.
In turn, former deputy head of Viktor Yanukovych’s administration Andrei Portnov is skeptical about Groysman’s political prospects and his chances of avoiding criminal prosecution under the new government.
“Groysman said that he was going to the elections, creating a party and taking people with a good reputation there. So what should we do with the members of your current party and government - those who, with your complicity, tacit consent and supervision, robbed the budget and the army, rigged elections and bribed voters, exchanged sailors to retain power, stored stolen goods in offshore areas and made money from the devaluation of the hryvnia ? What to do with the Silk Road, Hyperloop and e-government? Will it stay with the old party or will it move to the new one?
There’s no need for a new batch just yet, serve the old one first,” Portnov said.
Also, the ex-official does not believe that Groysman will be able to come to an agreement with the new government.
Groysman said he was ready to cooperate with the new president if he had no ideological differences. Well, if there are no disagreements with the investigation and the court, you can also slowly cooperate with them,” Portnov quipped in his Telegram channel.
