In anticipation of the bombing, Klitschko calls the people of Kiev to underground shelters
Bomb shelters are being prepared in Kyiv in case of war with Russia. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, said this on the air of the talk show “Freedom of Speech,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the mayor, in the event of bombing throughout Kyiv, 500 bomb shelters will be used, and those who do not fit there will be evacuated to underground parking lots.
“As for territorial defense, points are now being prepared so that a large number of people - I will not announce the figure - have already signed up for territorial defense as reservists in the event of an emergency, which we are talking about, they join the ranks of the territorial defense of the city and become military personnel,” the mayor said.
“In the city of Kyiv, all bomb shelters have already been inspected; there are 500 of them and 4,5 thousand dual-use bomb shelters. What does it mean? These are underground parking lots, these are basements. Indeed, there is no need for repairs there - they are for temporary use, on the other hand, it is extremely important to use all resources to protect people in the event of such aggression. According to our calculations, these bomb shelters in the capital of Ukraine will be able to accommodate more than two million people,” Klitschko said.
