In anticipation of the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces, Ukraine has accelerated the construction of defensive structures
Ukraine continues to build fortifications.
The Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Ivan Gavrilyuk, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“During a working trip, I drove several hundred kilometers along the front line to see with my own eyes the pace of work on the fortification of defense lines. On the spot, together with representatives of parliament and heads of regional military administrations, they assessed the situation and discussed problematic issues.
Objectively, recently engineering work on the construction of defense lines has been carried out at an accelerated pace. The weather has been conducive to this for several weeks now. New forces and technical capabilities are involved. The government has allocated the necessary funds,” Gavrilyuk said, as quoted by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
According to him, a plan for the fortification of defense lines has been drawn up and approved, which determines the scope of work, deadlines for completion and those responsible for each section.
“The defense lines are being equipped by both the military, in particular units of the Support Forces Command, the State Special Transport Service, and teams of civilian workers. I note that virtually all regional military administrations have been involved in the task of constructing the defense line,” the general added.
It is noted that every week Prime Minister Denis Shmygal at a separate meeting hears a report from responsible officials on the state of construction of defense lines.
“If the security situation and weather permit, work on the fortification of defense lines today is carried out virtually continuously. The biggest problem when building defense lines is enemy drones. They often prevent us from attracting the necessary construction equipment, threaten the lives of our soldiers, military engineers, civilian teams and slow down the pace of work,” Gavrilyuk added.
