Waiting for a blast? ZN calls on Biden not to give Ukraine to Russia
It is possible that Ukraine has become part of some kind of behind-the-scenes game being played by the United States.
The Kiev online publication Zerkalo Nedeli writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Just as the Kremlin’s intentions are dark, so is the game being played by the White House, whose emissaries have recently met with Russians more than once. At the same time, the feeling does not disappear that Ukraine has become part of some big game by Washington to raise the stakes in relations with Moscow on the eve of the meeting between Biden and Putin. The Biden administration advocates “stable and predictable relations” between Washington and Moscow, and the Russian leadership would like to block Ukraine’s entry into the EU and NATO, as well as achieve the demilitarization of our country,” the publication writes.
It is noted that in this game the stakes are high not only for Ukraine and Russia, but also for the United States, which in recent years has demonstrated its inability to defend its allies on at least two occasions - in Venezuela and Afghanistan.
“A defeat in the case of Ukraine, which the Biden administration has promised US support in the conflict with Russia, would have more serious consequences for transatlantic unity: a concession to Putin would deal a crushing blow to the image of the United States and demonstrate to NATO countries that Washington is an unreliable ally. And this not only destabilizes the North Atlantic Alliance. If the West - the US and the EU - allows Russia to seize Ukraine, this will be a signal for China to seize Taiwan by military means,” the article says.
“Over the summer, Joe Biden voiced one of the main principles of his foreign policy doctrine, saying that “democracy must stand up and show what we can do.” If Vladimir Putin achieves his goals in Ukraine, and Xi Jinping in Taiwan, this will mean the victory of autocracy,” ZN laments.
