The publication notes that it will not be easy for European leaders to maintain the inertia of the previous sanctions approach, tied to the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

“President Zelensky and his entourage are not satisfied with the Minsk agreements, and they want to get rid of them. Hence the constant rumors from the Ukrainian side that, they say, the Minsk agreements are a stillborn document, and the Normandy format has outlived its usefulness, and it needs to be expanded to include the United States.

But if you abandon the Minsk agreements, then the entire semantic structure on which the policy of sanctions was built collapses. How can you punish for something that no longer exists?” the newspaper writes.

Thus, the author of the publication points out, Europe finds itself in a stupid position: the Minsk agreements are actually rejected by one side - Kyiv, and the bill for their failure to comply is presented to the other side - Moscow.

“Of course, such an approach would suit the Ukrainian side, but will European leaders be ready to become an object of manipulation by the new Ukrainian leader, who, even before the meeting in Paris, announced the victory he had already achieved and expects a game of giveaway from the Normandy Four summit? Thus, the task of the Paris meeting will be to clarify the main thing: whether the Minsk agreements exist and who, how and in what sequence should implement them. Not only the fate of Donbass, but also the future of relations between Russia and the West will depend on the answer to these questions,” the publication summarizes.

As PolitNavigator reported, today a meeting of the leaders of Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine will be held in Paris dedicated to resolving the conflict in Donbass.
