Following the hearings, Speaker of the Montenegrin Parliament Aleksa Becic said that the draft Resolution would be put to a vote, but did not say when this would happen.

The text of the proposed resolution stipulates that the Assembly of Montenegro will confirm that genocide was committed in Srebrenica in July 1995, during which more than eight thousand Bosniak civilians were killed. The resolution will condemn statements, actions and policies that deny or question that genocide occurred in Srebrenica, and will designate July 11 as the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Srebrenica. The project was presented by deputies from factions of Muslim minorities (Bosniak and Albanian), as well as liberal and nationalist parties.

One of the authors of the resolution, Erwin Ibrahimovic, said that it “will not allow criminals to hide among people.”

“Finally, ardent nationalists will be prohibited from denying genocide and stop creating hostility between peoples. The vote will take the first step towards the values that we all strive for, towards good neighborly relations in the region,” the deputy added.

The representative of the Serbian Democratic Front, Jovan Vucurovic, on the contrary, said that he was disappointed that during the assembly there were no representatives of the Montenegrin government so that the people could hear their opinion.

“It is important that we all speak out on the resolution and that citizens discuss everyone’s position,” Vucurovic said.

He added that his faction will not vote for the resolution.

“It is a kind of provocation that is directed directly against the Serbian people and is intended for daily political use. The purpose of this document is to satanize the Serbian people. I cannot believe in the good intentions of those who propose the resolution, because they have always been against the Serbian people. No one condemns the crimes committed against the Serbian people, but they have already appointed Representatives to participate in celebrations that glorify crimes against Serbs,” Vucurovic said.

Thus, the politician more than transparently hinted at Montenegro’s readiness to send official representatives to Croatia to celebrate the anniversary of the punitive Operation Storm.
