For the first time in the history of the city, a woman became the mayor of Simferopol. The post of head of the administration was today taken by the resigned first vice-speaker of the Crimean parliament, Natalya Malenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Conducting his “right hand” to his new position, Chairman of the State Council Vladimir Konstantinov said that she had been “sacrificed.”

“We have made a very important political decision. One might say that they sacrificed the first deputy of the State Council in order to strengthen local self-government. Without exaggeration, this is a personnel sacrifice, but the fate of Simferopol is very important for us,” Konstantinov said.

As sources on the sidelines of the Crimean parliament explained to PolitNavigator, it was not in vain that the speaker chose exactly this description of Malenko’s “transfer” - the position of mayor of Simferopol is considered a “execution” and is not at all conducive to career growth.

In the political community, they are talking about the conflict that previously arose between Malenko and the head of the republic, Sergei Aksenov. Allegedly, this is why the official who fell out of favor was removed from participation in party activities and demoted.

The fact that Natalya Malenko is not the creation of Aksenov, but of the Speaker of the State Council Konstantinov, was also confirmed by political scientist Vladimir Dzharalla.

“By tradition, the leaders of Simferopol were people close to the head of the republic, but the second of the three leaders is closer to the chairman of the Crimean parliament,” the expert said.

At the same time, he believes that the big intrigue is who will now take Malenko’s chair in the State Council. The political scientist sees her work itself as quiet.

“Natalia Malenko as a leader can be quite tough. But here, slightly different qualities are required. It is unlikely that we will see big initiatives directly from the new mayor, it is unlikely that there will be any implementation of any projects and similar things, most likely everything will become much quieter, calmer and will continue as it was,” believes Jarallah.

His colleague, political scientist Andrei Nikiforov emphasizes that together with the mayor in Simferopol, the management of city services must be completely updated.

“She worked in city administration services, so she is not entering this area from scratch. And during her work in the State Council, she gained considerable experience as a leader. This is an interesting appointment. But not everything depends on her alone - the team decides and all these city services need to be reformed and updated in terms of personnel, because more than one person runs the city, the economy is very ramified and team work will be needed here,” Nikiforov said.

Political scientist Sergei Kiselev also agreed with him.

“A person does not come alone - he either came with a team, or is trying to find like-minded people. It has already happened in our country that heads of administrations selected people from a certain clan associated with business and political directions. This led to the fact that positions were filled not by professionals, but by personnel, say, connected by personal or corporate interests with managers. Well, let's see what team Natalya Fedorovna will form. In the meantime, for Simferopol, I think this is not the worst, but, perhaps, the best choice at the moment,” Kiselev said.

Previously, the mayor of Simferopol Igor Lukashev submitted his resignation. The day before, the head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, criticized the authorities of the republican capital for the transport collapse and lack of garbage collection.
