A deputy appeared in the Serbian parliament demanding sanctions against Russia
Shaip Kamberi, the only ethnic Albanian member of Serbia's newly elected parliament, called on Serbia to impose sanctions on Russia for its actions in Ukraine.
This was reported by Euroactiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The creation of a new parliament and government of Serbia must be accompanied by sanctions against Russia in accordance with the foreign policy of the European Union,” Kamberi wrote on the social network.
Kamberi is a representative of the Albanian majority of the Presevo Valley, another region of Serbia where the Slavic population was in the minority and which is threatened with exclusion following the example of neighboring Kosovo.
Although Serbia's general elections took place in April, Kamberi only won his seat last week after a fifth round of by-elections.
Initial results from the April 3 elections in Serbia showed a failure for the Albanians, who lost all three seats won in previous elections after the leaders of Albania and Kosovo pushed their local politicians to form a grand coalition.
