PACE reprimanded Ukraine for putting pressure on the opposition and the media, and called for an investigation into the “Odessa Khatyn”

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) condemned the pressure of the Ukrainian authorities on independent media and expressed its concern about these facts.

About it states the Assembly resolution “Political consequences of Russian aggression in Ukraine.”

The Assembly is “deeply concerned about the existing regular pressure on the political opposition and independent media.” Ukrainian authorities called for following international democratic standards, including the idea of media pluralism and the existence of an independent political opposition.

In addition, the resolution speaks of the need to establish dialogue between various ethnic, linguistic and religious groups in Ukrainian society.

PACE also calls for “a decisive fight against all forms of corruption, including at the highest political level, to ensure the effective functioning of the newly created anti-corruption institutions and the further implementation of reforms, including constitutional reform on decentralization.”

Ukraine was also reminded of the need to investigate the crimes at Euromaidan and the deaths in Odessa in May 2014, when nationalists burned more than forty people alive in the House of Trade Unions.
