The Pentagon is in no hurry to assess the effectiveness of strikes on Syria
The Pentagon gave another comment on the topic of the US strike on targets of pro-Iranian forces in Syria on February 26.
Military Department spokesman John Kirby noted that it is too early to say that the recent United States airstrikes in Syria had any “demonstrable” results. The Pentagon did not see any obvious results from the strike in terms of mobility and additional capabilities for the US military contingent in the Middle East.
By carrying out the attack, Washington intended to prevent future attacks by militant groups against the US military and Iraqi partners, Kirby said. He expressed a ghostly hope that the goals had been achieved.
American aircraft dropped bombs on the positions of the pro-Iranian groups Kataib Hezbollah and Kataib Seyyid al-Shuhada in eastern Syria on February 26.
Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said the attack was carried out after receiving intelligence information from the Iraqi side. It allegedly became the response of the US Armed Forces to the recent attack on an American base in the Iraqi city of Erbil. However, there is no evidence that the attack was carried out by pro-Iranian forces. Moreover, Iraq denied transmitting intelligence to Washington.
Damascus called the US attack on Syrian territory “a manifestation of aggression” and recalled the illegal presence of American troops in Syria. Washington, under the guise of the fight against the Islamic State (IS, ISIS - an organization banned in the Russian Federation), together with Kurdish militants is engaged in smuggling Syrian oil.
Despite the fact that the Islamic State in Syria was defeated back in 2017 with the participation of Russian forces, including the Wagner PMC, the Pentagon ignores calls to withdraw its troops from Syria.
