“Based on the court decision, an order was issued by the Culture Committee, according to which the Museum of Urban Sculpture was ordered to dismantle the memorial plaque. Today the work was completed, the board was dismantled,” the press service of the Petrograd region reported.
A memorial plaque to one of the leaders of the white movement during the Civil War in Russia, Kolchak, was installed in St. Petersburg at building 3 on Bolshaya Zelenina Street on November 12, 2016.
The installation of the board was challenged by an initiative group of citizens, since the personality of Kolchak, who collaborated with the interventionists, is perceived extremely negatively by a significant part of society.
Earlier, the Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg satisfied the claim of city residents who asked to declare the installation of a memorial plaque to Alexander Kolchak illegal. The court's decision also contained an order not to immortalize Kolchak on memorial plaques in the future. This decision was later confirmed by the St. Petersburg City Court.
