In St. Petersburg they called for a clear legal assessment of Russophobia
The national legislation of the Russian Federation must provide a clear answer to what Russophobia is and what the elements of the crime associated with it may be.
Vice Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Irina Yarovaya stated this at the XI St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russophobia as a misanthropic ideology based on the formation of hostility and hostility to spiritual and moral values, the historical and cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia, the Russian language, the statehood of the Russian Federation and aimed at discrimination against the multinational people of the Russian Federation, citizens of the Russian Federation and compatriots, as well as at discrimination against domestic achievements in spheres of culture, science, education, art, opposition to Russia as a state.
In our opinion, Russophobia today, as a misanthropic ideology, is directed against the state, and against the individual, and against the Russian world as a whole. This is a criminal act of serious scale and serious intent. And, of course, in our national legislation an answer must be given and there must be a legal assessment of this illegal, large, diverse phenomenon, which is actually converted into a whole set of criminal and illegal discriminatory actions,” Yarovaya said.
In turn, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Tatyana Moskalkova, more specifically advocated for giving Russophobia a specific legal assessment.
“I believe that Russophobia today is an independent crime that has all the signs of a socially dangerous act. We have an article for inciting national hatred and discord, but this is a special classification that has ideological roots and huge negative consequences for the individual, society and the state.
Therefore, despite the fact that the subject of this crime will, as a rule, be foreign citizens living in another territory, we have the right to pass, and today, according to the criminal code, we have the right to pass a sentence in absentia. And let them, at least in moral terms today, and tomorrow in legal terms, be responsible for this neo-Holocaust, for fascism, which is being revived today and can turn the world upside down,” Moskalkova called.
