A rally was held in St. Petersburg in support of Moscow liberals
In St. Petersburg, on Lenin Square, about 1000 people gathered for a coordinated rally of solidarity with Moscow liberals, who last weekend staged clashes with police and unauthorized marches demanding that “independent” opposition candidates be allowed to run in the elections.
The St. Petersburg action began with a scandal. Several people standing under the stage began to shout at the presenter, chanting, “Get out!” and “Liberal is a disgrace to Russia!”
The liberals immediately identified their opponents as representatives of the Fatherland Revival Party.
“Get out yourself, shut your mouths yourself, you fool - “air defense”! Police officers, take out the inappropriate people!” - they shouted back from the stage.
Several riot police officers then appeared under the stage, but did not detain the air defense representatives, only separating the speakers from the opponents of the liberals, who continued to chant and interfere with the opposition speakers.
“Down with Putin!” – in turn, the liberals periodically chanted from the stage.
The organizers of today's rally announced a march against the authorities for August 17.
“We will go out until all opposition candidates are allowed in, until the municipal filter is abolished,” said one of the speakers.
