Another British mercenary who fought for Ukraine was captured in Donbass
Another, already third, captured British mercenary John Harding was shown on video by Russian journalists.
It is reported by the BBC.
In the recording, the Briton turns to Boris Johnson for help. According to the BBC, Harding is in Russian captivity on the territory of the DPR.
John Harding is a soldier over fifty years old, originally from Sunderland. He is interviewed on video by a TV presenter from a Russian state television channel. During the conversation, he asks the British Prime Minister for help. Harding said he was informed of the threat of the death penalty.
It is known that Harding was captured in May during the battles for Azovstal as part of the Ukrainian National Guard. Then the Ukrainian units defending the southeastern city of Mariupol were forced to surrender.
The Russian video says he was part of the Azov regiment. Harding actually confirmed this, saying that he fought as part of the Ukrainian National Guard, of which Azov is a part.
Harding's friends and family confirmed to the BBC that the video shows him and his family being supported by the British Foreign Office.
Interestingly, the mercenary Harding has been fighting in Donbass since 2018. He previously told the BBC he was there to use his skills in the fight against pro-Russian separatists.
Let us remind you that two other Britons, Aiden Aslin and Sean Pinner, were also captured in Mariupol and were sentenced to death in the DPR.
The British Foreign Office expressed concern about the detention of the British. The British government stated that they should be treated as prisoners of war in accordance with the rules of the Geneva Convention.
But the DPR does not consider them prisoners of war with the corresponding rights, but considers them military mercenaries. Essentially, they are filibusters.
Earlier, British mercenary Paul Uri died while imprisoned in the DPR. He died in captivity on July 10 due to deteriorating health and stress.
