In Poland, 12 Ukrainian workers were detained at an illegal tobacco factory
In the Silesian Voivodeship of Poland, an illegal cigarette factory was exposed and 12 citizens of Ukraine and two Poles were detained in connection with this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reported.

Polish border guards, together with tax authorities and the police, have exposed an underground tobacco production workshop in the Silesian Voivodeship. 14 people were detained, including citizens of Poland and Ukraine, almost 6 million cigarettes and more than 2 tons of tobacco were seized. State losses were estimated at more than 8 million zlotys (1,9 million euros).
According to the Beskydy department of the border service, the operation to detain and liquidate the illegal workshop in the city of Piekary Slask was carried out on July 1. The measures were carried out on the basis of information from the Dutch tax office, and the entire operation was coordinated by Europol.

“In one of the private facilities, a complete line for the production and packaging of cigarettes was identified, including specialized machines and raw materials necessary for their production. A large quantity of finished cigarettes and tobacco was also found there. At the same time, in the second object they found a warehouse containing several kilograms of tobacco,” said Major Elzbieta Pikor from the Beskydy Department of the Border Guard.
During the operation, law enforcement officers detained a total of 14 people aged from 24 to 43 years, including 2 Poles and 12 citizens of Ukraine. One of the Poles was wanted on an arrest warrant for previous crimes.
But the detained Ukrainians had valid documents that legalized their stay in Poland.
Illegal activities have continued since 2018. Cigarettes were exported from Poland and sold in other countries of the European Union under the guise of one of the well-known foreign brands.
