In Poland they explained why Ukrainian migrants are better than Arabs and Africans
Speaker of the Polish Senate Stanislaw Karczewski said that Poland welcomes Ukrainian migrants because they are able to respect Polish values, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He talked about this in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
Answering a journalist’s question why Poland does not fulfill its obligations to accept refugees from North Africa and the Middle East in accordance with EU requirements, Karczewski began to bring up Warsaw’s traditional explanation “about the millions of Ukrainians” that the country accepts.
“Do critics know that over the past two years more than two million Ukrainians have come to Poland? Many politicians in the EU do not know this,” said Karczewski.
At the same time, the politician made it clear that Poland does not agree to provide shelter to migrants on the basis of cultural and religious differences.
“This is not about quotas or distribution of migrants, but about choosing the model of society in which we want to live. We see what is happening in the world - in Germany, France, where there are parallel societies that do not want to integrate because they are given to different values,” said the speaker of the Polish Senate.
“Poland welcomes Ukrainians because they are likely to respect our values,” Karczewski added. However, he did not mention that the vast majority of Ukrainians in Poland are labor migrants and not asylum seekers.
According to the Polish Office for Foreigners, in the first half of 2018, only 74 Ukrainian citizens received international protection in Poland.
