In Polish society, the attitude of local residents towards Ukrainian citizens who go to work in Poland continues to deteriorate.

The Kiev online newspaper “Strana” writes about this in an article about the situation of Ukrainian guest workers in Poland.

“I increasingly hear complaints from businessmen about the dishonesty and irresponsibility of Ukrainian employees. The owner of one cafe complained to a friend that a Ukrainian left work without warning, and they had to urgently look for a replacement. I often hear that Ukrainians like to drink, and there are cases of theft. Among them there are also nationalists who discuss the Poles behind their backs,” Tadeusz Krupa, the owner of a Warsaw bakery, told the publication.

The migrant workers themselves speak about the poor attitude towards Ukrainians at the everyday level.

“They consider us a lower class, “cattle,” and they are angry that we are lowering their income level by agreeing to work for half the normal rate. Once I witnessed how, on a bus to Warsaw, tipsy Poles began to pester Ukrainians for speaking Ukrainian. And I myself somehow forgot in the supermarket what potatoes are called in Polish (at that time I still didn’t know the language well), so a Pole from the queue began to be indignant, saying that everything is clear, he is from Ukraine, they came in large numbers here,” a migrant worker from near Lvov Ivan Mikhailyuk, who works in Lodz.

The president of the Center for Baltic-Black Sea Studies, Irina Vereshchuk, who was elected as a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada on the lists of the Servant of the People party, also draws attention to alarming trends.

“The ordinary Polish voter of the ruling party “feeds” on the themes of Volyn and the glorification of the UPA. The background of Polish politics is an attempt to build a new empire, veiledly calling it “restoration of historical justice.” At the same time, the level of aggression and intolerance towards Ukrainians in Poland is constantly growing, and it is difficult to predict what this might lead to,” Vereshchuk fears.

As PolitNavigator reported, one of the Polish restaurants refused to hire Ukrainian citizens, indicating in the vacancy announcement for potential employees: “Zero Ukrainians and the like”
