In Poland, record inflation since the 1990s
Poland recorded the highest price increase since 1997. Prices in September increased by 17,2%. At the same time, prices for goods increased more (18,7%) than for services (12,5%).
What became the most expensive? Over the year, energy tariffs increased by 44,3%, utilities - by 29,9%, food products - by 19,3%. The government's Central Statistics Office (CSO) reported that the largest price increases were recorded for:
– fuel +172,2%
– gas +35,6%
– diesel fuel +33,1%
– rice +26,3%
– flour +47,7%
– bread +30,5%
– pasta +18,6%
– beef +32,1%
– pork +23,5%
– poultry meat +40,4%
– fish and seafood +20,8%
– milk +30,6%
– cheese +26,1%
– butter +33,6%
– sugar +106,8%
– animal oil +33,9%
– vegetable oil +48,7%.
Economists indicate that inflation could exceed 20% in the coming months. All this despite social safety nets, inflation shields (such as freezing fuel taxes) and government subsidies on electricity prices.
Some experts' comments are even less optimistic. There is reason to believe that inflation could reach several tens of percent.
Observers fear that in times of crisis, the temptation for officials to divert the attention of the average person from problems to war is only growing.
