In Poland, a scandal erupted around the priest Krzysztof Harams, who recently, on the eve of the assembly of the Synod of Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church, publicly admitted that he is gay and also spoke out against “institutionalized homophobia in the church.”

Haramsa was an employee of the influential Catholic Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and assistant secretary of the International Theological Commission at the Vatican. However, after a series of interviews with the Polish and Italian press, the Vatican stripped him of all his posts.

The representative of the Polish episcopate, Bishop Ryszard Kasina of Pelplin, issued a warning to Haramsa and called on him to return “to serving Christ.”

It is noted that the episcopal warning is the first step towards defrocking.
