Attacks on Ukrainians have become four times more common in Poland - ombudsman
Over four years, the number of cases of xenophobia, discrimination and hostility towards Ukrainians in Poland has increased from 30 to 190 cases, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova reported this on her Facebook page.
Lyudmila Denisova discussed the topic of xenophobia with the Commissioner for Civil Rights of Poland, Dr. Adam Bodnar, during a working trip to Warsaw.
“We discussed the issues of protecting the rights of labor migrants and exchanging information about the working conditions of Ukrainian citizens. In addition, she expressed her concern about the growing trend of xenophobia, discrimination and hatred based on nationality. Over four years, the number of such cases has increased from 30 to 190. Not all Ukrainian citizens turn to the relevant institutions when their rights are violated, so this figure may be higher,” the Ombudsman wrote.
The message also spoke about the latest incident of xenophobia against a citizen of Ukraine - in the Polish city of Zory, a group of five people brutally beat a Ukrainian student. Lyudmila Denisova assured that she personally monitors this matter.
“Given that the number of Ukrainian citizens located in Poland is constantly increasing, I will make a proposal to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to expand the consular representation to strengthen the protection of our citizens,” the ombudsman wrote.
