In Poland they demand to show the film “Volyn” in Ukraine
Wojciech Smarzowski’s feature film “Volyn” was released on the screens of Polish cinemas, dedicated to one of the most tragic periods in the history of Poland - the mass extermination of Poles by the UPA formations and the nationalists of the Stepan Bandera faction, which began in February 1943 and continued for several years, writes “Russian newspaper".

“This is a film for memory, not for revenge,” the publication quotes the director as saying.
“Moreover, Smazhovsky nevertheless tried, as far as possible, to soften the blow on ordinary Ukrainians,” the newspaper writes. – In his painting, he shows manifestations of Polish chauvinism in those places, recalling the policy of the Polish authorities before 1939, which created fertile ground for Ukrainian nationalism. During the massacre itself, the viewer will see several kind Ukrainians who help or simply do not interfere with the main character’s escape. One of them, a UPA partisan, is paying for this with his life. But this is unlikely to help avoid a negative reaction from Ukrainians to the picture, which some Polish politicians are already demanding that their Foreign Ministry promote in Ukraine.”
“RG” also cites an excerpt from a review of “Volyn”, published in the Polish magazine WSieci, which writes: “Smarzowski explodes a mine, the force of which only increased over time, and if not for the film, would have increased further. After all, the cult of the UPA in Ukraine is intensifying and expanding. And on the Polish side there is increasing frustration associated with this cult and the feeling that they are trying to suppress the topic of genocide in Volyn in various ways.”
At the same time, the author of the publication in the Polish edition writes that “even in circles that have supported Ukraine for many years, disappointment has recently appeared due to the lack of any expected steps from that side towards the historical sensitivity of the Poles and the presence of steps in the opposite direction.” direction."
