The crime was committed by unknown persons last night in a cemetery located on the outskirts of the Polish town of Milejczyce. Vandals broke more than 50 tombstones placed on the graves of Red Army soldiers who died during the fierce battles that took place in the area during the Great Patriotic War.

Local residents who came to the cemetery on the morning of September 25 reported the incident to the police. During operational activities, law enforcement officers established that the headstones of all damaged graves were broken. In addition, vandals covered the stars attached to them with black paint.

In total, over one and a half thousand Soviet soldiers who died for the liberation of the people of Poland are buried in the cemetery in Milejczyce.

Currently, law enforcement agencies have opened a criminal case on this fact under the article “Vandalism.” According to Polish law, the maximum sentence is five years in a general regime colony.

However, there is no certainty that the attackers who desecrated the graves will receive the punishment they deserve.

For example, 16-year-old Katspr Shevychek, who threw paint cans at the monument of gratitude to the Red Army last fall, was recently completely acquitted.

The teenager desecrated the memorial with the permission of his father, according to whom, monuments to Red Army soldiers should be demolished throughout the country.

Meanwhile, at the end of last year in Poland, vandals also desecrated 26 graves of Red Army soldiers located in the city of Bialystok.

Official representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry then turned to the Polish authorities with a demand to take measures to prevent cases of vandalism in relation to monuments to Soviet soldiers.
